Much has been written in recent years about replacing environmentally hazardous Hexavalent chromium electroplating solutions with Trivalent ones. Although Hexavalent processes have been used for electroplating for over 65 years, they have environmental issues associated with them. Trivalent coatings were developed to reduce the amount of Hexavalent chromate in the environment without sacrificing corrosion resistance.
